Overtime, our experiences(recruitment, selection & placement, supervision of client financial department and research) have repeatedly affirmed that a 95% of accounting graduates in Nigeria do not possess basic knowledge of the practice of accounting at the point of entry into labour market. And again, on the job, only those who are fortunate to gain employment in accounting practice firm are able to gain mastery within a minimum learning curve and possess sound practical knowledge of accounting while those who gained employment in commercial oriented entities struggle endlessly on the job expect those, whose management deliberately decided to train and re-train on a long-term basis have the clout to dictate or set pace in technical accounting matters. By extension, the paradigm shift in global labour market has necessitated particularly in Nigeria graduates changing career path to accounting a year or two after graduation. In addition to this entrepreneurship and hike in cost of manpower has also been responsible for business owners seeking accounting knowledge. On the other hand, book-keepers, preparers of financial statements and business owner need to often update their fair knowledge of standards governing the preparation and presentation of financial statements and enabling tax laws governing financial transactions, transactions taxes and tax computations.
